We lived in our apartment for over nine months before I got around to decorating. In my defense, we had no furniture when we moved in, so by the time we bought all the essentials, my bank account and I both needed a break from shopping. Now that I’m starting to decorate, I want to document it on the blog โ partly to share with you guys because I love getting a peek into other people’s homes and partly for myself because this is my online scrapbook. I knew I wanted to start small, like my nightstand essentials, to build momentum.
Nightstand โ I’m glad we held out for a nightstand we loved. We have one on each side of our bed, but we each decorated our own to suit us personally. Brett’s side is practical, while I wanted decorative pieces like faux flowers.
Lamp โ I’m all about functional decor pieces, and I love this lamp โ it’s gorgeous and sturdy. I think lamps are much cozier than harsh ceiling lights. Brett has the same one on his nightstand, and now we don’t have to bicker about who has to crawl out of bed to turn off the light, ha!
Flowers + vase โ As much as I like fresh flowers, they’re too much maintenance for me. I bought the faux flowers and vase separately to mix and match if I ever wanted to. Also, I think the unique geometric vase nicely complements the lamp.
Canvas print โ A bedroom is a great place for personal pictures, and I feel like they make the space homier. Brett gifted me the one on my nightstand for my birthday. I love that it’s rectangular because it creates a height contrast from the flowers.
Books โ I’d love to have pretty color-coordinated books, but I don’t find them functional. Instead, I keep books that I’m currently reading on my nightstand. As you can see, I generally get my books from the library as I rarely read a book more than once.
Candle โ I picked up this one at my local grocery store, and it’s the perfect mini-size. We have candles throughout our apartment, making rooms feel cozy and homey. I keep a lighter in my nightstand drawer for quick access.
Charger โ I’m one of those people who sleep next to their phone; regardless, I love the look of this sleek wireless charging stand. It charges not only my iPhone but my Apple Watch as well. Also, there are two USB outputs in the back where I can plug in my AirPods.
Coaster โ Since it’s a set of six, we keep two in the bedroom and never have to move them to other rooms. We set the other ones on our coffee and dining tables.

For me a lamp, books, charger and Kindle.
I need a new nightstand…or either less stuff to put on it. ๐ I use it for my lamp, kindle, phone, and then little incidentals that I want beside me during the night (like lip balm, earbuds, water bottle, etc). All those things add up.
I keep the books I’m currently reading on my nightstand too.

To be honest mine is mostly books, haha! I have a few books and a pretty ceramic dish that I keep magnetic bookmarks in. Then I have a place to put my glasses at night and a wireless cell phone charging pad.
Lovely and tidy. If you see mine, it is a chaos.
Iโve got a super small nightstand, but it works for our room! Iโve got a lamp, a photo, and a space for a few books!
First of all, don’t worry about not decorating quickly. I’ve lived in my house for a year and a half and there are still rooms with boxes! I like how your nightstand balances pretty with practical. I especially love the little photo!

I love how clean your nightstand is. I wish I kept mine clean and organized! Mine is also currently a plastic 3 drawer. One day I’ll get a “grown up” nightstand.

The way my room is set up, I don’t have a nightstand. It’s kind of a bummer. I really like the lamp you have here. And I’d definitely have a book…or two.

Love these ideas, especially the faux flowers! We are Google folks over here. We have a Google Nest Hub on one of our nightstands. It rotates pictures from one of our albums that we constantly add to. It’s really nice to see so many happy memories! We also programmed some lights in our lamps that we can tell Google to turn on and off. Like you, we don’t wanna get out of bed to turn off the lights after we’ve gotten comfortable!
I love that lamp. My nightstand is similar. I have a lamp, my Kindle, my hand cream (as my feet and hands are so dry, I will sometimes wake up at night to for some sleepy moisturizing), and a (pretty, glass) bottle of water. I try to keep my phone charging on the floor, a bit far from me so that I don’t look at it first thing in the morning (or if I have my alarm set, it forces me to get out of the bed)
These are some great nightstand essentials! On my nightstand I have a lamp, a picture of my boyfriend and I, some dried pressed flowers in a frame, a bottle of water and some bed/pillow mist ๐
Have the lamp, charger, and photo as well! And then I have some books, a rosary (being a Catholic), hand lotion, muscle and aromatherapy rubs! ๐ Would love to add a candle and flowers as well!
