It’s my first What’s Up Wednesday of 2025! I just went back and looked, and the last time I participated in What’s Up Wednesday was January 2024. Last year seemed to fly by in a blur between traveling and working on our house when we were home, but I hope to be a better blogger this year with more consistent weekly blog posts. So, as usual, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer, where we share what’s been going on this month.
What we’ve been eating: We’ve been eating well this month—see below! I try to cook quick, easy dinners at home during the week, like this chicken Cobb salad. Then, we typically grab coffee and eat out at least once on the weekends.
What I’m reminiscing about: Brett finally started editing our African safari photos, and I’ve been so nostalgic going through all the pictures and videos of our bucket list trip. If you’re interested, I shared my guide to planning a successful first African safari to help get you started. Also, I detailed our 10-day Kenyan itinerary, covering the places we went, what we did, and where we stayed.
What I’m loving: This serum that Brett gifted me. I had difficulty justifying the price tag, but I’m prioritizing my skin, so I asked for a bottle for Christmas. Now, we’re sharing it (funny how that happens!), and both love and plan on keeping it in our skincare routines.
What we’ve been up to: I’m used to a packed calendar, but we had a low-key, relaxing month at home. Admittedly, I get restless quickly, but I’m embracing being in the present without rushing to book the following event/project/trip. I recently stumbled across a quote about how a boring home life is winning the lottery of life. It was a much-needed reminder and perspective shift of how lucky we are to have consistency and peace.
What I’m dreading: Is it too early to say taxes?
What I’m working on: Since we’re home with no upcoming travel plans, I’m trying to maintain consistent daily habits like blogging, reading a chapter, and closing my exercise ring on my Apple Watch. I’ve even got back into paper planning to help me keep track and stay motivated.
What I’m excited about: In November, a couple of gals and I started a book club (using that term loosely). It’s been fun, and we take turns hosting every month. I’m excited for my turn to host next about Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty—a great book club pick!
What I’m watching/reading: We’re about to finish season 2 of The Wire. It took a few episodes to understand all the characters and storylines, but now I see why so many dub it one of the best shows ever created. Also, I’m reading If You Tell by Gregg Olsen, a true story of three sisters who survived vicious abuse from their mom, Shelly Knotek. I’m surprised her case isn’t shared more because the details are the most horrifying I’ve read as a crime junkie.
What I’m listening to: I don’t religiously listen to Call Her Daddy or watch The Bachelor anymore; however, I’ve been loosely following this Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell breakup, and I’m surprisingly eager to tune in to hear Rachael’s side.
What I’m wearing: Welp, I just scrolled through my camera roll and have zero cute outfit pictures from this month; 99% of my photos document us hanging out with our dogs on the couch. I’m striving to wear something other than athleisure and loungewear next month.
What I’m doing this weekend: A friend is staying with us for a few days, so I’m sure we’ll be doing some fun things around town, although we have no set plans. Fun fact: I recapped our weekend when he visited in 2021 as one of my first travel blog posts.
What I’m looking forward to next month: Earlier this week, Brett texted me, and I’m sharing them with his permission because they’re too cute and funny not to share. I’m excited to bring back date nights next month (although I’d argue we already have date nights weekly).
Thanks for stopping by for my monthly What’s Up Wednesday update. I hope 2025 is treating you well so far. What’s up with you this month? Let me know in the comments! xo
I nearly wrote taxes in the dreading category too! Once that tax planner shows up (which it already has!) I say it’s not too early. That is a great perspective about a boring month at home; I’ve been rather enjoying my hibernation and slow intro to the year. BUT definitely have a few trip ideas in mind as well.
